Traverse Desert. Carnarvon Range, Canning Stock Route and Rudall River Expedition.

21 Day Tour

Departure Date: 7th July 2008

Come and experience this Desert Wilderness with Richard as he takes you on a journey to dispel the notion that Deserts are seas of sand and nothing else. Emphasis will be on the courage and determination of the early explorers, Giles, Carnegie etc and also surveyors such as Talbot as you marvel at the Rugged scenery and wildflowers along the Canning Stock Route. After visiting the worlds second largest Meteorite Crater recognised by geologists in 1947 as the result of the impact of a huge iron meteorite about 250,000 years ago. We head on southwards onto the Canning Stock Route through the Great Sandy Desert first called the Great Australian Desert by Augustus Gregory in 1858. Covering an area bigger than Europe, this wilderness challenges the hardest adventurers.

The Canning Stock Route in Western Australia is approximately 1800 km long and runs from Halls Creek in the southern Kimberly region to Wiluna in the Goldfields. The route passes through some of the most arid, inhospitable and dramatic landscapes on earth including four major deserts, The Great Sandy, The Little Sandy, The Tanami and The Gibson Desert. Travelling with Richard of Wilderness Wanderer, who is a very experienced remote area bushman and a vehicle equipped with the VKS 737 Radio Network frequencies for Australia wide communications and recovery gear for a range of situations, is an experience that will have you coming back year after year for more.
